About institution:

Shegaon town having the great spiritual importance due to the holy stay of Shri Gajanan Maharaj and which is also known as Vidarbha – Pandhari, has the great contribution of Shri Gajanan Maharaj Sansthan, Shegaon in many philanthropic activities such asMedical Service, Annadan (Food For Devotee), Mobile Dispensary for Tribal In Remote Areas, Homeopathy, Ayurvedic And Allopathic Hospitals, Rehabilitation Center for The Handicapped, Library, Anand Sagar (Sansthan’s unique creation where spiritual and material life goes hand in hand), Spiritual Workshops, Eye Surgery Camps, Educational Institutes (Engg.Collage, English School, Warkari Shikshan Sanstha, Anganwadi for Tribals).

 

Out of these many such activities, ‘Shri Gajanan Maharaj, Residential School for Mentally Retarded Students, Shegaon’ is another landmark of Shegaon Sansthan. The Sansthan has made distinction by looking after the unfortunate; mentally retarded children who are ignored by society and cursed by destiny. For such children, the Sansthan started this residential school on 5th September 1988 which has all basic infrastructures. The students from all over Maharashtra take advantage of studying in this school. Specially to note, the Sansthan provides free accommodation, food and education in this school for the children coming from rural poor families. This project of Sansthan certainly caters one of the most important services to the society and hence Sansthan has its own destination. 

 

Highlights:-

1. Sansthan’s own grand and spacious building with playground.
2. Trained and dedicated staff.
3. To impart education to mentally retarded children, their physical exercise, making them self-reliant, developing intellectual and social skills, to provide speech therapy and physiotherapy.
4. Abundant educational aids for teaching these special children.
5. Vocational training for example- to prepare things from coconut string, to prepare chalks, greeting cards, candles, wax lamps, book binding, screen printing, to prepare turmeric and chili powder on grinder etc. Every year an exhibition of the things beautifully created by these special students is organized by Sansthan. 
6. Organization of interschool games and sports time to time.
7. The students bagged many prizes in games and sports organized by social welfare department, Govt. of Maharashtra at district, regional and at state level. Many students brought laurels to the credit of the school by their tremendous success of 3 gold medals and one silver medal in National Special Olympic Games.
8. Different camps/ workshops are organized. The school also organized two seminars at regional level. Similarly the parents are guided through the get together about the upbringing of such children and solving their problems. In 2004, a good number of parents and members of management actively participated in the state level seminar on the same topic.

 

GREAT ACHIEVEMENT OF WORLD RECORD IN OLYMPIC GAMES.

The students of this school participated in World Special Olympic Games’ in December 2007 at Shanghai, in China, where the athletes from 160 countries had participated in Athletic games. Master Ketan Mukeshchand Sancheti, an extraordinary student of this school, curved the institute’s name in Golden letters. He bagged Gold Medal in 100 meters and 200 meters relay race, with world record, to this credit. Thus he gave recognition not only to the school but to Shegaon town also at world level.

 

9. Great achievement of the students with three gold medals and many prizes of First position in drawing- painting and singing at state level. Even the students are versatile and got success on theatre and drama competitions at state level.
10. The psychiatrist from Akola – Dr. Pramod Thakare visits the school every month and Dr. Mukund Saoji fortnightly to examine the students. The homeopaths from Akola also look after the health of the student and Raja pharmacy provides free medicine to the students. Sansthan’s mobile dispensary visits the school every day and nurses are available round the clock to look after the overall health of the students. 
11. Parents meeting on first Sunday of every month to solve the problems, if any.
12. Free accommodation and food to the students of this residential school.

14. Excursion tours at tourist and holy places.
15. To boost up the confidence and physical stamina, participation of the students in trekking camps organized by Ajinkya Fitness Adventure Group. The students successfully surpassed 12, 50, 000 feet in 2005 at Manali (H.P.) and hoisted the school flag at the summit.

• 12 students – day scholars
• 62 students – others.

Presently 119 students are studying in this residential school.

Academic progress:

So far, 62 students of the school are divided into 10 groups as per their IQ. 27 teaching andnon-teaching staff members are deputed in the school. The school timings are 10.30 am to 5.30 pm. The curriculum of each class is designed on basic skills like- writing, reading, daily activities, GK, self-hygiene, financial dealings, drawing – painting, craft, games, physical exercise,yoga and recitation etc. The trained teaching staff trains the students with all the patience and brings out steady and sure progress in them. The school also marks and celebrates the birth and death anniversaries of great people, important days, and festivals like Raksha-Bandhan, World Disabled Day and Birth Days of students to make them aware of the importance of these things.

Hostel:

The institute started the hostel from 15thJuly 1991 so as to facilitate the disabled children of the rural area to study in Shegaon. Presently 62 students reside in the hostel with free accommodation, food facility. The school also provides other basic facilities, medicine and nutrition food to the students with the dedicated staff to look after them. 

Eligibility for admission 

1. To furnish the certificate given by the psychiatrist and Civil Surgeon, that the student is mentally retarded.
2. Certificate of date of Birth.
3. Residential proof.
4. Income certificate.
5. 8 passport size recent photographs.
6. For age group 6 – 18 

Rules for Hostel 

1. The rules are applicable for all students of the school.
2. For girls the age group is 6 to 12.
3. The students must have proper conduct and should know the hygiene of attending nature call. 
4. It is mandatory to follow the rules and to maintain discipline in the hostel.
5. The students having chronic and contagious diseases (epilepsy) will not be given admission in the hostel.
6. Parents visit – first Sunday of every month.Apart from this, contact the office for other details
